Ben Johnson story:)
In 1988 there was a 100m final race. All eyes were on two men, Ben Johnson and Karl Louis. Ben Johnson is from Canada and Karl Louis is from U.S.A. Both of them really wanted to win the race and to get the gold medal.
Ben Johnson was setting a new world record.Sadly for the wrong reasons Ben Johnson was gone. Then Ben Johnson came first and ending up winning the gold medal.
With a Shocking Ednosment the Olympics knew that Ben Johnson was taking drugs. So karl Louis ending up with 1st Place and the gold meald. So then Ben Johnson was banned from the Olympics and Athlets.

Pheidippides
The Greeks was exhausted as the battle came to an end. Pheidippides was sent to go and deliver good news to the Athens that we had won.
Over rocky mountains Pheidippides went up, around and down. Pheidippides was sweaty and dehydrated while going to Athens. Never giving up Pheidippides made it to Athens.
“Joy! We won!” shouted Pheidippides when they arrived in Athens. Sadly Pheidippides died because he ran out of water and he was hot on his way to the Athens.
Fencing Olympics
The Persians and Greeks used fencing for practicing their skills for sword fighting. Right now fencing is a sport in the Modern Olympics.
Fencing was introduced to the Olympics in 1896. Fencing has now changed because in the olden days when they win a point they didn’t have technology. Now when we win a point the green light goes on and red light goes to the other person who didn’t win a point.
Competing in the Olympics there was all kind of different swords for fencing,Sabre, foil and Epee .The fencing swords have a rubber at the end so it does not hurt the person.

Olympic Flame
The Ancient Greeks started the tradition of having an Olympic flame. In Olympia a sacred flame is lit by the sun's rays and stays alight until the games have ended. The flame symbolized a request for protection from Zeus and the athletes’ struggles for victory.
The Modern flame symbolizes the light of the spirit, knowledge and life. To this day, the torch is still lit in Olympia in Greece, then carried by a relay team, passing runner to runner, until it reaches the host-city of the games. There, the cauldron will be lit and stay alight until the closing ceremony.
