Week 2 Day 5 Summer Learning Journey 2019 - 2020

WEEK 2: I HAVE A DREAM...
Politics and Activism
DAY 5: HUMANITARIAN HEROES
Activity 1 & 2 and 3
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 1: Everyday Heroes [4 points]
Every day, the men and women in the Emergency Services provide help and support people in New Zealand and around the world. At times, they have to risk their lives in order to save others.
Common Emergency Services include the Fire Service, the Police Force and the Ambulance Service. Other related services include the Air Ambulance, Search and Rescue, Coast Guard, Surf Lifesaving, and the Civil Defence (amongst others).
In Australia, Fire Services are currently fighting more than 150 wildfires burning in New South Wales, a province on the east coast of the country. The wildfires started in November 2019 and are not expected to stop for many weeks. It is a very challenging time for the men and women serving in the Emergency Services in Australia.
For this activity, please brainstorm at least five ways we could support the people who are affected by the fires in New South Wales, Australia. You could think of ways to raise money, things to send them, and ways to keep them feeling positive.
On your blog, share your brainstorm of ideas and create a video or audio recording of yourself explaining each idea.
*Remember to attribute any images that you borrow from the internet or from other people.

Activity 2: Leading by Example [4 points]
Mother Teresa and Princess Diana were both people who wanted to do things to help others. They were very different people, however they both had a significant impact on the world.

Mother Teresa was born in Eastern Europe but decided at a young age that she wanted to be a missionary (a person who gets sent somewhere to share their religious faith and do charity work). She moved to India where she worked hard and cared for those who needed her the most. Her work was recognised by the Catholic Church, which gave her the title of ‘Saint’ Teresa.

Diana, while not officially a saint, was a real-life princess. In her role as a princess, she travelled the world raising awareness about a number of important issues. Through her work, Princess Diana helped the world to see that all people, including those affected by illness and disease, needed love and respect. Princess Diana and Mother Teresa both led by example with acts of kindness towards others.
For this activity, we would like you to follow in their footsteps and perform a random act of kindness.
On your blog, describe your random act of kindness. What did you do? How did the person react? How did it make you feel? *Please check out the Eye-Catching Blog Posts page for ideas!

Activity 2: Leading by Example [4 points]
 Image Attribution - Image #1 - Image #2

Random act of Kindness , This one day me and my family went out in the Old Pap ( Old Papatoetoe - Reasoning behind it because there is two Papatoetoe one is a new one the original old one )  to grab some butter chicken with rice and we did. Until we saw this man sitting on the concrete on a nice sunny day and we felt sorry , so we all went to go to the takeaways that was across the road and get some hot deep fried chicken with some chips and once we got it we to the dairy to get him some drinks and some fresh bananas also because it was a hot day and he had no food once once we got all the things. Me , my Brother and sister had a item each and gave it to him and my brother gave $15 dollars to him to help him get food if he needs it or when he's hungry . After that my mum and dad wished him good luck and said a speech to him and after that He said " Thank you" with a big smile on his face and that made me feel over the moon because my family helped a human being that was struggling. Then we hopped into our car and drove passed him and we all waved and he waved back happily eating this fresh hot chicken!! This was a Kindness act that i'll never forget!
Task Description : This task is my favourtive because I got to tell and share what me and my family did as a random act of kindness! I loved that day till today because it was so touching and so unforgettable , even writing it and sharing my story it brang back memories of that day and how that man smile and made me joyful and what we did made his day!

WEEK 2: I HAVE A DREAM...
Politics and Activism
DAY 4: INDIGENOUS RIGHTS
Activity 1 & 2 and 3
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 1: Guiding Principles [4 points]
Image Attribution: Portrait of Hone Heke, William Duke, Public Domain
Hōne Heke was a rangatira (chief) of Ngapuhi iwi in Northland. He was a strong and fearless warrior, and also an intelligent leader who fought for Māori rights during the British colonisation of Aotearoa, New Zealand. He was baptised a Christian in 1835 and had much respect for the missionaries that came to New Zealand. Hōne Heke supported Te Tiriti o Waitangi - the Treaty of Waitangi - and was the first rangatira to sign it in 1840.

However he soon realised that under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Māori rangatira were losing their authority (power). In protest, he cut down the flagpole that flew the British flag at Kororareka (Russell) four times. He must have been very frustrated and angry.
Sometimes when we feel strongly (frustrated, angry, happy, excited, in awe…) we find it hard to put our feelings into words. Many cultures have sayings, proverbs or metaphors that can help people to explain their feelings or describe specific things. In Te Reo Māori, some people may use a whakataukī.

For this activity, read through the seven whakataukī (proverbs or metaphors) presented in this document. Choose one that has meaning for you. Create a poster that features the whakataukī and be sure to include at least one image (a drawing or photograph) on the poster that represents the whakataukī that you chose.
On your blog, share your poster of your whakataukī. *Remember to attribute any images that you borrow from the internet or from other people. Please check out the Eye-Catching Blog Posts page for ideas!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 1: Guiding Principles [4 points]
Task Description : This week I am learning about how to finish a task within a time frame as well as doing the task propley and also to have fun . This task was all based on our chosen whakataukī , I thought the one I chosen was really meaningful and meant a lot to me , as it kinda describe my life! My Favourtive part of this task was writing a short description of why I chad chosen that whakataukī.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 2: Celebrating Diversity [4 points]
There are between 370 and 500 million Indigenous Peoples currently living in 90 countries around the world. Together, they represent over 5000 different cultures and speak 4000 different languages. That is pretty amazing ‘eh?! I wish that I could speak 4000 languages!

Indigenous People is the term used to describe the people who were the first inhabitants of a land. In Aotearoa, Māori are Indigenous. Indigenous people have rich and vibrant cultures that make the world such a fascinating, varied and enriching place to live.

Activity 2: Celebrating Diversity [4 points]

Task Description : For this task I had to pick two groups out of the 5 groups given . They all had interesting statements and story's upon what had happened in the country. I deiced to go with Australia and Papa  New Guinea and I actually do not regret choosing them both because I got to learn different kinds of things in both country's!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 3: Wise Words [4 points]
Sir Āpirana Ngata and Dame Whina Cooper were both influential leaders who fought for Māori rights. Āpirana Ngata was a lawyer and politician. He worked hard to give rights to Māori land owners, and he also spent a lot of his career encouraging Māori to preserve the culture - haka, poi, whakairo (carving), waiata (song), sport and the construction of more marae around Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Whina Cooper was the first president of the Māori Women’s Welfare League, which worked on improving health, education, housing and welfare for Māori women in New Zealand in the 1950s. She led the Māori land hikoi (march) from Northland to Wellington to protest against the loss of Māori land. She was nearly 80 years old at the time. Both of these individuals are examples of wise, inspiring leaders and role models.

For this activity, please identify someone in your life who is a role model to you. This could be a parent, grandparent, neighbour, minister, imam, rabbi etc. Please ask them to share one piece of wisdom (advice) with you that they think you and your blog readers should hear.On your blog, share this wisdom with your readers. Be sure you tell us who you heard it from and to use speech marks (“...”) if you are writing down exactly what they said.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 3: Wise Words [4 points]
Image Attribution - Wise Words Quote
Believe it or not, I have two role models which are my mum and dad, I couldn't choose between both of them because they were in my whole life and they both loved me and my siblings and taught us different things in my part of my life and my journey ever since to where I am now. They have both said and did a lot for me in my 12 years and 07 days living in my life I have and said a lot of wise words but this is the only ones I can remember when they told me.
Wise Words - Mum - " Get a good education and work, hard and redeem the rewards later on"
In my meaning of what my mum had told me that I should and always be putting my education and school first and learn heaps that will help me and my upcoming future. But also when working to work hard and put 100% into it and do it first time right without coming back and doing it, again and again, to do it right. As well as after all the hard work the rewards will be redeemed when I'm finished with everything .
Wise Words - Dad - " To live life to the fullest "
In my meaning of what my dad said that I should " Live life to the fullest" and make everything count, make the most with our loved ones because you'll never know when its time.

Task Description : For this task I had to ask and rethink a upon what our role model or role models said to us in wise words and quoting the saying upon what they said. I deiced to go and explain what my revision meaning behind my parents wise words.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall Task Description : HThis tasks that were given were pretty cool , My favourtive had to be the last activty because the words that were given to me or said was really inspiring me to keep goin and never give up and carry on with my upcoming furture ahead of me. Mystical Adventure Part 1 - Keyhole Narrative Writing

Mystical Adventure Part 1

It was a typical walk while the beautiful sun was setting through the Island of Macoryin located in Russia . Josh and Joseph wanted to explore and have an adventure throughout Russia . As Lina , Josh , Melissa and Joseph were having a good time , Josh caught a gleam of an eye catching his attention as he yelled out “ Guys come look what I found! “ As they all came running back to Joseph , Lina  was shocked and wondered to herself how come its so dark ? Melissa & Josh was keen to go in but they didn’t know about the others whether they wanted to or not , so Melissa asked the whole group “ Do you’s want to go in because me and Josh wanna

“ With in fear Lina said  I don't know guys “
“ Joseph said yup Im keen “
With the whole group all keen to go inside they all awaited for Lina but then Joseph said “ Its Alright Lina you’ll be fine just stick with me “
Lina Replied “ Okay thx ”
As they all took a couple of steps into the dark tunnel they couldn’t see anything since it was really pitch dark black ahead of them . But until Lina tumbled Joseph caught her they both looked each other in the eye but then Josh and melissa said “ Oshhhh Come on you two its not a love story “ giggling a bit
“Coming” said Lina ( blushing ) and Joseph
They all thought they were getting nowhere until Josh spotted a light ahead of him and said “ Look there’s a hint of light “
They all ran towards it but then they all said with supsioucnest “ What’s that ? “
They all looked at each other awkwardly like they never looked at each other before , They took step by step moving slowly towards the weird looking ship with a part of land leaving a big hole for several eyes to see . They all wonder what should they do so so they all jump and they all barley made it into the ship and once they opened the door and took a couple of steps the door closed on its own!

Explanation structure Writing ( How to be an good daughter )

How To be an good Daughter

Do you have what it takes to become a better daughter to your parents? In this Explanation writing I am going to explain how YOU could be a good Daughter to your Parents meaning what you could do , have a better stronger bond and relationship with them and how you should act .

Our Hard working parents provide things for us in life and make our lives the best it could be. They work very hard in order to make some money for the family and feed us well but in reality there really tired and exhausted from work  but still put on a smile on their face . For an example, you could do some chores like cleaning because let's all admit a messy house makes a very angry parent.

Relationships and Bonds mean the world to our parents  .Bonds and relationships between a mother and daughter and father is unbreakable even tho you do naughty and bad stuff in the bottom of their heart they will always forgive and love you . For example, another way to create a better and stronger bond and relationship is too have a sense of humor , talk to them when you need someone to talk too also to spend more time with them when you can .

Respect is the key to having a good family . When acting around your parents you should never be disrespectful because your parents raised you and did loads of things , the way to act around your parents is to be respectful at all times no matter where you are . For an example if your parents smacked you they did it for a reason and you shouldn’t be mad at them because you had put it upon yourself so just move on and keep on respecting them like normally .

Now that you have read my story about “ How to be a good daughter “ do you have the inspiration or what it takes to be a good daughter ? This all Concules about my explanation about how to be a good daughter .

Task Description : This week we are learning how to Structure an explanation piece of writing correctly. This was a 2 day task to work on as because we had to write it properly and this whole topic was about how to be an good son / daughter .

The boy was lefted frightened upon what had happened split seconds ago ! He wonders to himself “ Could the thunderstorm be cursed ? “ . As his favourtive toy ( Number 28 ) just kept on growing and growing and still it had finally stopped as once it was nearly as tall as the whole hotel ( Apartments ) The boy knew he had to do something about it before it does something! As Number 28 started taking steps to go somewhere suddenly the ground started shaking as because of how he was so much bigger than everyone else . The teenage boy had a plan and said “ What if the thunderstorm struck again at Number 28 maybe he would turn back to the original size it was at the start ? “ but there was only one problem how was the boy ever going to get the thunder to strike again at Number 28 ? So the Teenage boy decided to search up on google “ How to get thunder to strike at something “ there was the results ! All the boy had to do was get a piece of metal and reflect it to Number 28 ! As the teenage boy was finding a piece of metal seconds later he founded one so he got up and carried the big heavy metal outside as the thunder was still striking but he didn’t care all he wanted was to get his Number 28 back ! So as he finally reaches outside with the heavy big metal all lefted to do was to reflect it to Number 28 , As he placed the metal to Number 28 . Explanation Writing - Responsibility

In dreams begins responsibility - W.B. Yeats
Responsible means taking care of and helping other people when they need help and taking responsibility for your actions. For example, that could be helping your younger siblings with homework or helping a person by giving back or, taking responsibility for your actions.

Kids have responsibility of where there going and what there doing. For an example if there going out with friends to hangout it’s there responsibility to get home at a certain time and get there safely .

Adults have lots of responsibilities in life . Like taking care of their children and looking after them and doing all sorts of responsibility in taking care of their child . For example being an adult you have to also be a role model to the younger ones because what you do they do because they saw you do it .

Everyone has different types of responsibilities kids and adults.Being a kid and an adult have to take care of themselves and look after where they are and also therefore there actions .Everyone has different types situations with responsibilities even when little things happen that get turned into big situations .

Responsibility is taking care of and making a difference other individuals when they require offer assistance and taking obligation for your activities. Overall my thoughts are that everyone in the world has responsibilities .

Task Description : We are learning to Write a SEE paragraph and to Write conclusion paragraph . For this week our task was had to pick an statement / writing from the explanation hook writing we did which is here . But saying that we had to pick an story and rewrite it as an Explanation writing .

Genome Sequence Summary

When our bodies are fully asleep in our bodies do all sorts of things like healing themselves without us knowing not even a single bit ,but it doesn’t include magic and that's for sure .
DNA is part of us and it controls us as an Instruction Manual in our bodies the instructions that includes 6 billion Chemical letters which are A , G , T and C.
99% of our Sequences are mainly the same but only 1% is different which means if you have brown eyes and you want your baby to have blue eyes you are likely to only have a chance of 1% out of 100% .
Everyone in the world has glitches in our bodies and if you have a change in your body that means it will likely be weaker than the other arm unless you want to find the glitch and sort it out your gonna have to look inside your Genome Sequence .
Now that were in the future it is easier to test and remove DNA or testing blood since there is higher technology .
Working out where your genome is from, can really help the doctors find out what your condition treatment is...
Task Description : Today in Literacy we had watched an Genome Sequence Video for our reading task and here's a little summary of what me and Rosiephine Learnt while watching the video , This is mainly our Notes we took in our own words to show our summary of the video we had watched .

School Hours Persuasive Writing

Meaning of Colors = Purple for Hook & Green for Opinion & Yellow for Reason’s & Blue for Examples/Facts

Intro
Is school hours good that it's long or not ?
In my opinion school should start at 8:30am and finish at 3.00pm because its a reasonable time to end and finish school and you get a lot of Education done while your at school .

P1 Good -
Helping/Understanding
For an Example Some Kids seem to struggle on understanding there learning online and if there stuck they really need help but doesn’t know what to do they seem to sit there and not do anything , that's why most kids prefer to go to school and get help from a teacher face to face that way they can help the kids fully understand rather than being stuck and not getting anywhere .
Some online study sites that kids use some sites can’t really tell the kids on what they are actually looking for but on the other hand teachers help the kids when they need help instead of the kid searching for the missing information and killing time .

P2 Better -
Learning / Education
The Time period for school is good because the long hours of the school day helps the kids learn more and has a good shot at there future .
If the time period has been cut to shorter hours for the school days the kids may not be learning as much as you think they are the longer the day the more they learn but the shorter the day the less they will be able to learn new things but not only that in school we have morning tea and lunchtime and that cost up to nearly 2 hours of the whole school day and less time of learning .
Learning will never be a regret because as you grow up and wanting a career or a job you have the knowledge to get that job since you learnt a lot in school from the time period that you have for learning .

P3 Best  -
 Better Future
For an Example , having no Education by your side and haven’t learnt anything about learning that's a BIG regret because once you want a job you haven't study about it . Education is one of your important needs why you ask because it helps you get the job you want and if they ask you did you learn anything about that pariteler job and you already learnt about because you took the time to study about it .
Learning plays a BIG part of your life as you really need it not only for jobs and careers but also for your own goods and if your children need help on there homework you can help them as because you studied when you were supposed to and have the knowledge to do it .

Conclusion
At the end of it Education plays a big part in your life as I said , you really need to succeed in life or not to succeed in life either way it's your choice to pick whether you want to succeed or not . But in my Opinion every kid and adult should learn more and will have a bright future ahead of them and still to come!
