WinterLearningJourney ( All About Pure New Zealand ) Day 5 One Step at a time

Day #5: One Step at a Time…
After a long day at the beach, it is now time to move away from the water and drive inland, through the middle of the south island. You are going to start in Nelson and drive south before crossing a huge mountain range called the ‘Southern Alps.’ The scenery is going to be amazing!
Activity 1: After a few hours in the car, you, your group and Curious Kiwi arrive at your first stop – The Lewis Pass Scenic Reserve. It is a beautiful, regional park located at the base of the Southern Alps. You and your group get out of the van and follow Curious Kiwi. He is going to lead you on a short walk through the park. As you start walking, you notice a really cool looking tree on the side of the trail and you stop to take a closer look. When you turn back, the group (and Curious Kiwi) is nowhere to be found. Eek! You are all alone in the middle of a strange forest.
For this activity write a short story (8-10 sentences) about what might happen next. Please be sure to include lots of details about what you might be feeling, seeing and doing after you realise that you are all alone in the forest.

Here i am lost in a Forest Alone by my self i am feeling so scarred and don't know what to do . I Couldn't Believe my eyes i really had ended up in a Forest "Come On !!!!!! " . Ten minutes has past Something had passed my eyes going fast that i could not see it, was just like Flash but 10x Faster it was a black Shadow going past the tree's my feeling's started to change in different kinds of ways . i Knew i had to do something to protect myself for whatever is there so i had to gather up some wood's and i cheeked my pockets if i had anything to sharped the end of the wood with and i had Scissors but sharp. So then i grab the Sharp Scissors and start to sharped the end for the wood , 5 to 9 minutes later i was finished. So then i knew a had only one chance to throw to my best of my ability  to get one perfect shot . I thorwed the wood and i got a " Perfect Shot " so then i need to finded a way back to my home so i had to think hard . So i thinked again i still had my Phone so then i had to ring my friend and she picked up . I said " can u up me up please " and she said Yep Sure . So i had to start walking the road so she cloud see me . A little bit latter about 15 - 20 minutes she had picked me up and took me home to my family .

Activity 2: After the adventure at The Lewis Pass Scenic Reserve, you are pretty happy to get back into the shuttle van and continue with your road trip. Over the next few hours you travel up and over the Southern Alps, arriving in the city of Christchurch to eat lunch. You have a delicious meal at a café downtown and then hop back into the van to travel to Twizel, a small town at the base of Aoraki-Mt Cook. Mt Cook is the largest mountain in New Zealand. It is also the mountain where Sir Edmund Hillary trained for his climb up Mt Everest the tallest mountain in the world. Sir Edmund Hillary is very famous because he was the first person to ever reach the top of Mt Everest!

Now it is your turn to learn about a famous New Zealander. Use Google to research one famous person from New Zealand and then create a DLO and post it on your blog. Be sure to include: 1. The name of the famous person, 2. Where they were born, 3. Why they are famous, and 4. Two other interesting facts about them.

My DLO all about Jonah Lomu

Bonus Activity: You and your tour group have enjoyed your day in the mountains but you’re ready for a change of scenery. You ask Curious Kiwi to take you to Central Otago, a region of the south island with lots of rolling hills and flat, brown grasslands. While in Central Otago, you decide to join the Otago Central Rail Trail – a 150 km long cycle trail. Curious Kiwi and I (Rachel) cycled the Rail Trail in April and we loved it! On your blog, tell us whether you would like to cycle the Otago Rail Trail one day. Does it sound like fun? Why or why not?

One day i would like to go to the  Otago Rail Trail because it keep me fit and heathly and it sounds fun to me because you get to cycle  Otago Rail Trail and see lots and lots of Nature so i would go and giving thing a go is great too.

  2. Hi Lillyana,

It is so great to see that way that you and your friends continue to support and encourage each other on your blog. We love to see the positive comments!

I also love to see that you took the time to create a really interesting and informative DLO about Jonah Lomu. It was very sad when he passed away last year. I have to admit that I felt most sad for his young children. I hope that they are able to watch videos of him and to remember him throughout their lives.

I also hope that other rugby players will appear who have the same personal characteristics as Jonah. We'll have to watch and see who appears 'on the scene' in the next few years. In the meantime, it will be wonderful to see you continue to learn more about the famous people and the beautiful places on offer here in New Zealand. Certainly, the Otago area is one of the most spectacular areas that I have ever visited in NZ. It is quite unusual looking compared to much of the rest of the country. The hills are brownish in colour and there are far fewer trees and mountains than in other parts of the country. I really hope that you have the chance to go down to Otago one day and to cycle the rail trail. It was a lot of fun and is a huge highlight of my time, so far, in New Zealand!!

Keep up the great work, Lillyana. You and your friends are setting such a great example of how to post positive comments and how to support each other's learning.

    Awesome work,

    Rachel :)
