!!!SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY !!
WEEK 2 :  Water , Water , Everywhere
Day 1 : Swimming with the fish

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WEEK 2: Water, Water, Everywhere

Welcome to the second week of the Summer Learning Journey. We hope that you enjoyed learning about the amazing land habitats that we have here in New Zealand and overseas. This week we are going to  focus on water; the lakes, rivers and oceans that make up our beautiful country. Are you ready to jump in and get wet? Let’s hope you brought your togs!

DAY 1: Swimming with the Fish

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 1: Surfs Up! [4 points]
In New Zealand we have many beautiful beaches and stunning waterfalls. One of the most spectacular waterfalls is called Kitekite and it is located in Piha, a small village west of Auckland. Tourists and locals flock to Piha during the summer season to enjoy the waterfall, the local beach, and the great surf. Have you ever tried surfing? Although I have never surfed many of my friends have and they absolutely love it. In fact, it is their favourite summer activity! What is yours?
For this activity, please take a picture of yourself doing one of your favourite summer activities. It could be anything! Here is a picture of one of our team members (Laura) doing one of her favourite summer activities.
On your blog, post a picture of yourself doing one of your favourite summer activities. Below the picture tell us what the activity is and tell us why it is one of your favorites.
3 of my favourtive summer activities to do in the summer !!!

#1 - Camping

I love to camp in our backyard because its fun and we get to do all kind of things like making smores with a fireplace and doing karaoke with our family and having a laugh and most of all spending time with each other also we get to tell stories at night and lots more !!!!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 2: The Great Taupo Cycle Challenge [4 points]

Every year approximately 7500 people arrive in Taupo, New Zealand to compete in a one-day cycling race around Lake Taupo. The race route is 160 km in length. Participants can choose to compete in the full race or the half-race (80 km). Let’s imagine that you were given a free ticket to compete in the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge next year and you were able to bring three people with you as your ‘support crew.’ Who would you bring with you?
If it was me, I would choose my son, Aronui, as one of my supporters because he’s really funny and energetic. I think that he would make sure that I had a great time and that I spent the entire day laughing and smiling. I would also choose my sister, Leigh, because she is very strong and fast. Thirdly, I would choose my co-leader, Hazel, because she is very organised and would make sure that we followed the trail and didn’t get lost!
On your blog, list the three people you would like to have on your Lake Taupo Cycle Race Support Crew. Tell us why you have chosen each person.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would pick my mum for my first option because she supports me for everything and more and she has did so much for me and that's why she is my first choice .
I would pick my Dad because he likes going outdoors and doing activity's and more and i think this is going to be the perfect trip for him .
Last but not least the rest of my family my Brother , Sister and my dog why you ask its because my brother and sister likes going on adventure just like my dad and for my dog he is just going to love it there and lets say you can't leave the rest of your family behind ..
This is going to be an great experience for me and my family to go out on a adventure to the Lake Taupo Cycle Race as we all love going outdoors !!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 3: Something Smells Fishy…[10 points]

One of the longest and largest rivers in the world is called the Amazon River. It is located in South America and is approximately 6400 kilometres (kms) long. That is four times longer than the entire country of New Zealand. Wow!
Scientists believe that there are over 3000 different kinds of fish that live in the Amazon River. Now, that is a lot of fish! To learn more about fish, we went online and found some really cool facts about fish.
For this activity, we are going to provide you with five sentences about fish. Some of them are true and some are them are not. It is your job to read these ‘facts’, and decide whether they are true or false.

On your blog, write out each fact and in CAPITAL LETTERS beside the fact, write the word ‘TRUE’ if it is a true fact or ‘FALSE’ if it is not true.
True or False?

Fish Fact #1: The oldest known fish in the world is a 65 year old Australian lungfish.
TRUE - The Australian Lungfish is infacted the known oldest fish in the World .
Fish Fact #2: Sharks are the only fish that have eyelids. TRUE - Sharks are the only fishes that have eyelids.
Fish Fact #3: Starfish are a type of fish.
FALSE - Starfish is not a Type of Fish .

Day 5 - Blink And You'll Miss It - Week 1 : A Place to Stand - Summer Learning Journey 2018 - 2019

!!!SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY !!
WEEK 1:  Blink and You’ll Miss It
DAY 5 : MORE THAN MEETS AN EYE
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAY 5: Blink and You’ll Miss It

Activity 1: Towering Timbers [4 points]
There is a long and rich history of logging in New Zealand. Logging involves cutting down trees. The people who cut them down are called loggers. The trees that they cut down are sold and used to build things (eg. houses), to make products (eg. paper), and to generate (create) heat and power. Over the past two centuries, many of the trees in New Zealand have been cut down by loggers.
Left: NZ native forest Right: A logged forest

Some people like logging because it creates jobs for the loggers and generates money for New Zealand while others are against (opposed to) logging. Many of those opposed are worried that logging will damage the environment. It might also force animals who live in trees (eg. owls) to find new homes.
What do you think about logging?
On your blog tell us whether you think logging should be allowed in New Zealand. Be sure to provide at least two reasons to support your argument.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I really don't know if Logging in New Zealand is going to be alright because that the animals that live in trees have to find homes and its going to be hard for them because they did nothing to the new Zealanders , New Zealanders should stop logging to stop the animals from finding new homes and just leave the animals alone in there homes that they are in . Yes the logging process can also damage the environment that we live in but no one would want a DAMAGED dirty log environment and plus when visitors come to New Zealand and look at the environment they will think bad things by just looking at it and we would like the visitors to say good things but our environment and our country .........
But We do did Loggers in life because of our things like Houses that we live in and Paper that we all mostly use and Heat that keeps us warm and Power that we all use for Electricity like fridges , Microwaves and other stuff that container power so we do need Logging to happen in New Zealand , So my say is I Don't know ........................
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 2: Living on the Edge [4 points]
While it can get quite cold in New Zealand, it rarely drops below freezing (00C). Most of the time the temperature in New Zealand is pretty mild. This is not the case in the tundra. The tundra is an area of land (biome) that is cold, dry and completely treeless. Did you know that the average temperature in the tundra is -280C?
Over the past few years, however, the temperature in the tundra has been rising and the weather has been changing. Let’s imagine that your teacher decides to take you on a class trip to the tundra before the weather changes too much and you aren’t able to go.
On your blog, write a letter to your best friend or a family member telling them about your trip to the tundra. To earn full points your letter must have a greeting (eg. Dear…) followed by 5 – 6 sentences of information about what your experience.

Over the years, scientists have made some surprising discoveries. One of

these discoveries is that we have entire cities (e.g. Jakarta, Indonesia and Venice, Italy) that are slowly sinking into the ocean. Scientists believe that, one day, the cities will disappear completely under the water. Yikes!
Some of the residents (people living in the cities) have taken pictures of their neighbourhoods and written stories about their lives in order to make a record of what ‘life was like’ in their city before it disappeared.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Task Description : For this Summer Learning Task Week 1 Day 1 Activity 2 was we had to write a letter to a friend of ours or a family member of ourselfs at tundra and explain to our family member or our friend about tundra and what it looks like and other stuff .
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 3: Going, going….gone [10 points]

Let’s imagine that New Zealand was going to sink to the bottom of the ocean next week (Eek!). Before it sinks you are asked to write a blog post telling people what life was like in New Zealand in 2018.

On your blog, post a description of life in New Zealand in 2018. Please remember that the people who read your post will have never been to New Zealand or even seen a picture so it is your job to ‘paint a picture’ of New Zealand using your words. You can also post pictures, if you wish. Be sure to fully attribute the pictures.

Living in New Zealand it was so fantastical , It was amazing for me to live there because everyone was nice and everyday was different , Our Country was a Kind Loving Caring , Sporty country that we all loved especially all the Tongans when the MMT Tonga Teams wins against a Team they would go CRAZY all around Auckland and especially in Otahuhu Because that's where the Home was in Auckland !!!The Beautiful Mountains in New Zealand always has a Beautiful View for you to look at also the Nature is amazing I would Recommend you to go to the STUNNING Parnell Rose Gardens as they have amazing different coloured roses that just look so amazing !!! our Beaches are amazing one of the best beaches in New Zealand , Auckland is Mission Bay why you ask it is because it a sunny place to swim it has parks and Food there and also A tall Water Fountain in the middle it's just Stunning to look at !!!! The most important thing about New Zealand that you can not forget about is the Sky City Tower why you ask it gives you a FULL View of Auckland for Sure !!!!

DAY 3: Awesome Animals

Activity 1: Fantastic Beasts [4 points]
In New Zealand we have many unusual animals. One of the most unusual is the kiwi bird - a bird that does not have wings and can not fly. Pretty strange, eh?! J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books, has recently written a new book about strange or unusual animals called ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.’
For this activity, please watch this cool book trailer. Year 7 and Year 8 students in South Auckland, New Zealand helped to make it. Once you have watched the video, use your imagination and create your very own beast. What does your beast look, smell, feel, and sound like?
On your blog, post a description of your beast. Use interesting adjectives (describing words) to tell us about your beast.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Task Description : For this task Me and My Friend Amelia deiced to work together on Fantastic Beast . We drawed our Beast's and we wrote our Descriptive Writing on the left hand side and then we though it would of been cool to do an small animation on google presentation so we did , Make sure to go on Amelia's amazing blog and show her some love and support !!!

Activity 2: The Secretive Skink [4 points]

We have a number of small lizards (geckos and skinks) living in New Zealand. One of the least common is the Chevron Skink. According to the Department of Conservation, Chevron Skinks live mostly on two islands - Great Barrier Island and Little Barrier Island. These islands are ‘animal reserves.’ Very few people, other than staff working for the New Zealand Department of Conservation (DOC), are allowed to live there. The DOC staff are called ‘Rangers.’ Their job is to protect the wildlife (animals and plants) living on the island.

Would you like to be a DOC ranger and live with the animals on Great Barrier Island?
On your blog list three pros (good things) and three cons (bad things) about working as a DOC ranger. At the bottom of your post, tell us whether you would like to be a DOC Ranger or not ???

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Task Description : For this Task I deiced to create a Google Drawing's for whether I would want to be a DOC Ranger Or Not and to also create my 3 Good and Bad Things about Being a DOC Ranger . Activity 3: The WWF: World Wildlife Fund [10 points]
In 1961, a number of people came together to start an organisation called the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The main goal of this organisation was/is to protect life on earth. Hundreds of WWF staff work in countries all over the world trying to protect our planet and the animals who live here. To learn more about their amazing work, click on one of the two video links below

Clip #2: Tigers

Once you have watched the video, go to your blog and, using full sentences, tell us:

1) The name of the animal the WWF is working to save.
2) What the WWF is doing to help the animal.

3) What, if any, success they have had protecting the animal.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WFF is Working to save the Freshwater Seals ( which are endangered in the world  ) , WFF is helping the Freshwater Seals by building snowbanks for the arriving new born baby Freshwater seals , and if they don't build Snowbanks the Seal pups could die , The Success that the WWF Team is working to save the Freshwater Seals is Amazing because they are build snowbanks to save the freshwater seals , WFF is doing an Amazing job on saving our Animals !!!!

Day 2 Forest Life - Week 1 : A Place to Stand - Summer Learning Journey 2018 - 2019

!!!Summer Learning Journey !!
WEEK 1: A Place to Stand
Day 2 Forest Life

DAY 2: Forest Life

Activity 1: Giants Among Us [4 points]

New Zealand has a really special environment. Many of the plants and trees found in New Zealand are not found anywhere else in the world. These plants and trees are endemic to our country.  In New Zealand, one of the largest and longest living endemic trees is the NZ Kauri tree. Kauri are mainly found in three regions of New Zealand: the Coromandel, Auckland and Northland. The largest Kauri tree in the country is in the Waipoua Forest in Northland. It is called Tāne Mahuta. Some people refer to it as the ‘Lord of the Forest.’
Thousands of people go to visit Tāne Mahuta every year. Would you like to be one of those people who got to see Tāne Mahuta in real life? Why or why not?
On your blog, tell us whether you would like to go and visit Tāne Mahuta one day. Be sure to tell us why you do (or do not) want to visit this endemic tree.

Activity 2: Fabulous Ferns [4 points]

One of the most common plants found in New Zealand forests is the fern. It is a special, iconic symbol of New Zealand. You will find pictures of ferns on the jerseys of many famous sporting teams in New Zealand, including the New Zealand All Blacks.
Did you know that many of these teams also have the word ‘fern’ in their name? Use your best researching skills to find three New Zealand sporting teams who use the word ‘fern’ in their title.
On your blog list three sports teams that have the word ‘fern’ in their title. Beside each team’s name, post a picture of their uniform. Then, at the bottom of your blog post tell us which of the three uniforms you like best and why.

Activity 3: Weird and Wonderful [10 points]
New Zealand is just one of many countries that has amazing plants and trees. In fact, the African desert is home to some pretty incredible plants, like the cactus. Some cacti are able to survive on as little as 3 millilitres (ml) of water a day. Wow!
Let’s imagine that you are given a cactus for your birthday. To keep it alive, you must give it 3 ml of water every day.
Over one full year, how much water will you need to give your cactus plant?
On your blog, tell us how to solve this maths problem. You can write your answer in words, use a Sketchpad image, or post a video explaining how you would figure it out. Be sure to give us your final answer in millilitres (ml).

Task Description : For this Task I had to do all the actives in Day 2 and to complete it to get points . The first was fun because I got to say if I wanted to go and see the Tāne Mahuta Tree and of course I said YES because its gonna be a Nature Best Adventure !!! anyways the second one had to spent time on but it was cool the 3rd one was in the middle of Hard and Easy but I got though all of it and I am SUPER DUPER PROUD OF MYSELF anyways If you haven't joined the AWESOMENESS summer learning journey click here to sign up CLICK ME Don't forget to tune in because there will be more post's coming very soon and God Bless you and your family and friends and stay safe and have a HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE !!!!
