Day 3 - ( Turn of the Century ( 2000 - 2010 ) - ! Summer Learning Journey !

Week Four: Contemporary Kiwis

Day 3: Turn of the Century (2000-2010)

Day 3: Social Systems

Activity 1: Mixed-Member Proportional (MMP)

In 1996, New Zealand adopted the MMP voting system. In September of 2017 we had a national election. Everyone in New Zealand, over the age of 18, was invited to vote for who they wanted to form the next government in New Zealand. The race was really close and in the end, three different political parties (Labour, New Zealand First and the Green Party), came together to form the new government. It is called a ‘coalition government’ because it includes different people from different political parties.

Imagine that you had to form a coalition government with two other people.  Who would you choose to partner with?

I would form a coalition with my son, Aronui, and with my friend, Amber. Aronui would be a great addition to the coalition because he is funny and kind. He would make us laugh and take care of us. Amber would be great because she is really smart and thoughtful. She is also good at making decisions. I think that we would form a great team. What about you? Who would you choose? Why?

I would form a coalition with my friend Leilani & with my friend Paige . Leilani would be Amazing to have Because she Very Smart & thoughtful and she comes up with Great Ideas and great decisions too . Also she is a Kind Friend and she Takes Care of Us also she would make us Laugh . Paige would be a Wonderful to have because She is very Kind and she would make us Laugh and she comes up with Great decisions and Paige has great personality just like Leilani .

Activity 2: Migration
Over the past few decades, there has been a huge rise in the number of people coming to New Zealand to live and/or travel. I was one of those people! In fact, I moved with my family to New Zealand in 2010 and I am so glad that I did. It’s a pretty amazing place to call home! At the moment I live about 10 minutes from three stunning beaches and a beautiful national park.

Speaking of home, where do you live? On your blog, please post a picture of your hometown and provide a list of three things that tourists, like us, could do if we came to visit. What do you like most about your hometown? (Remember the guidelines for being Cybersmart, and never post your address online). My hometown of Almonte, Ontario

Bonus Activity: Modern Learning Environments
Over the past few years, a number of schools have changed the way that they teach. Instead of one teacher working in one classroom with one group of students, some schools have built huge classrooms where many teachers work together to teach a big group of students. This is called a ‘Modern Learning Environment’ (MLE).

Some people prefer Modern Learning Environments while others aren’t so sure. Take a look at the pictures above. The one on the left is a photograph of a traditional classroom, and the picture on the right is of a Modern Learning Environment.

Imagine that you are a teacher, and design your own classroom. What would it look like? What furniture would you have? I would love to have some beanbags for reading on.

Draw a floorplan of your classroom (either in Google Draw or on paper) and upload it to your blog. Describe what is special about your classroom and why you designed it this way.

I’ve drawn a classroom with pink carpet and bright coloured tables. I also included a kitchen so that we can do cooking every day and a HUGE bookshelf because I love to read! What would you like to see in your classroom?

This is the Design I have done of the Classroom .
So I am going to Tell you everything that is in this Classroom . Let's Get Started so First off I have 2 Teacher's Desk's they are Both the same so they have a Circle Chair and I have picked a darkly kinda purple  . For the Both Teacher's Desk's I was going for a Brown colour and As I was looking for the right Brown I had Founded it !! I had picked a Light Brown Colour for the Both Teacher's Desk's . There is a Long White Board for both the Teacher's can write on if they need to . I have added a Kitchen because why not? the Reason why I had to add a Kitchen so that we can bake and cook different kind's of Food's  Also I had put a Sink to Wash Our Hands . Next The Tables But First I had to pick what kind of Shape I would Like I  and I had gone for a Hexagon I had Added 4 Different Colored Tables Yellow , Red , Green & Blue .  The Purple , Light Blue & White I had added those for organisation / Storage  so the Purple 1 is for Gardening Storage and you might be wondering why that is there because I had added 2 Flowers into the classroom  . The Small Light Blue one is for Crafting Storage so Anything Crafty and the Big Light Blue Long one is for any-kind of Storage that goes for the same as the White One in the Corner .  Next I have added a Designed Orange & White & Grey mat with Stripes the reason why I had put it there is because I had added a Black TV attached to the Wall . Last I had added a Reading Book Shelf and I was thinking why not create a Line of Books using  a Cube shape and all different kinds of Height's and different kinds of Color's .
That is Pretty much it I have done in the Classroom I hoped you Enjoyed it .
It Took me more than 20 Minutes so I had put everything I had wanted and To be honest I am Proud of it !!!

  1. Hey there Lillyana, it's awesome to comment on your wonderful work. You always do a terrific job and I've been really impressed all throughout the holidays.

Thanks for sharing who you would form a coalition with, Leilani and Paige. I love how you've provided lots of different reasons about why each of these girls would be a good member of the coalition. You've covered how they will interact with you on a personal level and also what they will be like in terms of their work ethic. What will happen if you guys have a disagreement?

Thanks for sharing all of the wonderful things to do in Glen Innes. I love how you've covered the outdoors, the food and the arts. I really must visit sometime soon! You've got an incredible amount of food to choose from, that's awesome! Which is your favourite?

Thanks for putting in a big effort when designing your classroom. It really shows in the quality of your work. Good on you!

I love how you've also put in a lot of effort when describing the diagram. I forgot to include storage space when I was thinking about my own design, that's so practical of you!

I would have a big fish tank, some computers, wobbly chairs, bean bags, iPads, whiteboard tables, a data projector, a basketball hoop off the outside of the classroom, and some ovens. I think it would be cool having a kitchen in the classroom so you could bake delicious treats while learning about measurement (maths).

Thanks for all of your hard work this summer Lillyana!

    1. Hey Billy ,

Thank you so Much for the such amazing comment you have done on this Blog post I really appreciate it !!!

Me , Leilani , Paige if we had a Disagreement I think that we will work it out and talk it out to fix the problem .
To be Honest I couldn't pick from all of the yummy food it's to hard to pick which one !!!

      Lillyana :)
