Day 4: Another World War (1939-1945)
At the end of the 1930s, the world has been shaken once more by the start of another World War (WWII). World War Two started on the 1st of September, 1939 when an army from Germany invaded a country called Poland. Two days later, England and France declared war on Germany and WWII began.
Activity 1: An Eventful Experience
WWII was made up of many battles and events. Follow this link to read more about the timeline of WWII.
Choose two key events and find out some more information about what happened on those days. On your blog, write a short summary of two events, including the names of people involved and where the event happened.

22 August: Soviet Union and Germany sign non-aggression pac
On August 23, 1939–shortly before World War II (1939-45) broke out in Europe–enemies Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union surprised the world by signing the German-Soviet Nonaggression Pact, in which the two countries agreed to take no military action against each other for the next 10 years.

Activity 2: A Call to Arms 
Over the course of WWII, approximately 140,000 New Zealanders were sent overseas to serve in the war. Many were sent to fight in huge battles, including the Battle of the Atlantic that lasted for 2064 days (over 5 years)! The Battle of the Atlantic came to an end in 1943, in large part due to the heroic efforts of people like Lloyd Trigg, a pilot from New Zealand. He was awarded a special medal from the New Zealand Government for his bravery. It is called a Victoria Cross (‘VC’ for short). A total of 22 New Zealanders have been awarded VCs.

Charles Upham Had Won the VC Twice . The First VC he had Won was 14 of October in 1941 . The Second VC He had won was 26 Of September in 1945 . Also He is One New Zealand’s most famous soldier's . He had Died on the 22nd of November 1994 . Why did Charles Upham win the VC it is Because he showed tremendous courage leading his men in ferocious actions .
Bonus Activity: Women at Work
Both men and women served in World War II. Many women chose to enlist as nurses and be stationed overseas caring for wounded soldiers. My nana was one of those nurses. She (Dorothy) spent much of World War II working on a large Red Cross ship that was stationed off the coast of Cairo, Egypt.
For this activity, you are going to imagine that you are just like Dorothy and that you are working as a nurse on a large medical ship.
One day you are walking along the deck of the ship when you hear a loud bang. You start to run as you see smoke coming from the far end of the ship. You run towards the room where your patients are waiting to receive treatment from the doctor. Just as you arrive at the door to their room you hear another loud bang and you…

One day you are walking along the deck of the ship when you hear a loud bang. You start to run as you see smoke coming from the far end of the ship. You run towards the room where your patients are waiting to receive treatment from the doctor. Just as you arrive at the door to their room you hear another loud bang and you immediately go the the door . As you Open the Door The Black Dark Smoke comes out of the Room . As the Black Dark Smoke comes out you see that the patients are need Fresh Air and They are Hurt and they badly need Treatment Quick as Fast . As Soon I had Ran to the Next Room and More patients Got Hurt and needing Treatment Quick and Fast . You Had Ran to the 3rd Room and you had opened the Door and More Patients Need Treatment . Then You Ran to the 4th room and you saw that More Patients Need Treatment . Suddenly you had to keep running because there are still room's to go . You are Running as Fast as Flash But as the same Time you had been Breathing Black Dark Smoke into your Lungs . Seconds Later you had Faited and Fallen on the Ground . As a Nurse comes Running towards you say " WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP " Then the Nurse Call's the Ambulance Quick . With the ambulance Quickly Coming and they had came . They take you on the ambulance Car and you got took to the Doctor's . You had came to the doctors and lay on the bed . Suddenly you Wake up and the Doctor Max ( Fake ) say you are Every Lucky to be back Alive . Then you went to go and say Thank to the Nurse .

Hey Lillyana, I have had so much fun reading the story you have written. It sounds like this poor nurse has a lot of work to do and people to help! I like how quick the story reads. It moves from one sentence to another with a lot of pace, and you get a sense of how frantic the nurse is. I hope she was able to help those poor people.
