WEEK 3 - Up , Up and Away
Day 4 - Like a Scene Out of a Movie

DAY 4: Like a Scene Out of a Movie

Activity 1: The Southern Lights [4 points]
Once in a while a very special event takes place in New Zealand. It is a show of beautiful, bright lights that appear in the sky over the South Island. The lights are called the ‘Aurora Australis’ or ‘Southern Lights.’ They are similar to the ‘Northern Lights’ that are often seen in places like Northern Canada, Iceland, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. The southern and northern lights are so stunning that they often leave people, who are watching them, speechless.
For this activity, you are to write a short acrostic word poem about the beautiful lights. Hazel has written an acrostic poem about summer to give you an example.

S - Sun outside,
U - Umbrellas in the sand.
M -  My friends and I, having fun,
M - Making sandcastles,
E - Enjoying ice cream on a hot day,
R - Racing to the beach!
On your blog, use the word ‘LIGHTS’ to write an acrostic poem about the Southern Lights. Be as creative as you can!
For more information and examples of acrostic poems, check out this poetry website.

L - Luscious Lights shines bright like a Diamond
I - Incredible Ombre sky
G - Glorious Glowing Feeling
H - Having  an Magnificent Time
T - To Bright to handle at Night
S - Shining light rich bright colours at Night

Activity 2: The Seven Sisters [4 points]

In the middle of winter, a very special cluster (group) of stars appear in the sky over New Zealand. This cluster is called the ‘Matariki star cluster.’ It re-appears in the sky each May/June and signals the start of the Māori New Year. Many songs (waiata) and stories have been written about the cluster. One of these is called ‘The Seven Stars of Matariki.’ It was written by a New Zealander named Toni Rolleston-Cummins. She is from Maketu. Click here to listen to Toni read her story.
On your blog, write a short summary of the book. What was it about? Try to summarise the story in 6-8 sentences.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once a Upon a Time there was a Man named Mitai he was the youngest out of all brothers anyways , Mitai and his Seven brothers in a village called Maketu. Mitai
was raised by his kororua Tohunga Te Raiwhara from whom he learned much magic. Mitai could change and form into a bird and secretly listen in on his brothers conversations. One day Mitai and his brothers decied still be hunting on, vomitmaire hill. Mitai and his brothers  heard a singing vocie , they wanted to discover who and where the  singing came from. As soon as the brothers discovered who the wahine were they immediately fell in love women and took them back to get married. Days later all the brother had grown week and looked like bones they went hunting .

Task Description ; For this task we had to write a summarise about the story that we have been given to work with which the story is about Maui , Summaries means a refresh of what really happened in the story that happened , I founded this task a bit hard to do but i did it .

Activity 3: Crazy, Cool Clouds [5 points]
Have you ever looked up into the sky and seen a cloud that had a really cool shape? I certainly have, and so have dozens of other people. Take a look at the three pictures of crazy, cool cloud formations below.

From left to right: Picture 1, Picture 2, Picture 3
Clouds are formed when small drops of water stick together. To learn more about clouds and how they are formed, you can watch this cool video. Once you have learned about clouds, please choose your favourite cloud picture.
On your blog, tell us what you see in the photo. What shape(s) do you see? Be sure to tell us which picture (1, 2 or 3) you have chosen and describe what you see in lots of detail!.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is my favourtive cloud because it looks like a Goofy from Mickey mouse shaping like sitting down with on chair like the no chair challenge and then someone invisible comes behind Goofy and tips a glass of water on top of his his and goofy was still watching his favourtive Chanel which was Cartoon Network then the invisible person had come back with a huge bucket of water and dumped it on goofy's head and goofy was hella wet from all that water that got dumper upon his head , Then the invisible person ran away acting like it was not her that did it !!!! Goofy was wet and wondered who could it be ??? Do you know let me know down below ?????

That's why this is my favourtive cloud because it always has a story behind  every cloud !!!!!

Task Description : For this task we had to pick our favourtive cloud out of the 3 picture and as you guys can see i have picked this cloud shape , Then we had to tell you's why we have picked this cloud and I have a story to go with this cloud , So enjoy :)

  1. Kia Ora Lillyana,

What an awesome blog post. Over the past few weeks I could see that you've done an amazing job. Activity 1 would have to be my favourite overall, the way you presented your acrostic poem was really cool. I'd have to admit this was much better than my poem. Overall, keep up the great work, continue to blog and enjoy the rest of your holidays.

    Kind Regards,
    Hinerangi

  3. Malo Lillyana,

You're right - it is very hard summarising a story. You've had a good go at it, well done. What happened after the brothers went hunting? What happened at the end of the story?

Whoa you have used some fantastic vocabulary in your poem - luscious, ombre, glorious, magnificent... It's fun writing an acrositc poem isn't it? Do you enjoy writing any other kinds of poems?

That's a great story behind the cloud!! You have a wonderful imagination! I think the invisible person was Aneelis!!
